You know you went to an International school when…

Posted in Ramblings by Rubina on the September 30th, 2007

You know you went to an International school when…

1. You speak two (or more) languages but can’t spell in any of them.

2. You flew before you could walk.

3. You have a passport, but no driver’s license.

4. You have a time zone map next to your telephone.

5. Your life story uses the phrase “Then we went to…” five times (or six, or seven times…).

6. Your second major is in a foreign language you already speak.

7. You realize it really is a small world, after all.

8. You think VISA is a document stamped in your passport, and not a plastic card you carry in your wallet.

9. You know the geography of the rest of the world, but you don’t know the geography of your own country.

10. You have best friends in 5 different countries.

11. When you were in middle school you could walk into a bar and order a drink without being questioned

12. You are a pro packer, or at least have done it many times

13. When you return to the States you are overwhelmed with the number of choices in a grocery store

14. Most of the 1st graders have cell phones

15. You never had a job until you reached college

16. Your passport has more stamps than a post office

17. You wake up in one country thinking you are in another

18. You speak many broken languages at once when you are drunk

19. You’ve dated people from other countries

20. You always have to think which side of the road to drive on

La la la…Musicals!

Posted in Ramblings by Rubina on the September 28th, 2007

I went to see Hairspray today (in Italy the movies come out pretty slow) and I went in not knowing it was a musical. Ok, I guess I’m a bit dull…

Apart from too many songs (well, that’s why it’s considered a musical), I’d have to say the movie was quite good! You just gotta love John Travolta, even as a woman.

Would you say this movie is overrated? If so, what’s your favorite musical?

For me, it’s Grease… Well, that’s actually the only other musical I’ve ever seen in my life :P

LOL July 20th… Wow, Italy really is slow!

10 Things You Didn’t Know…Until now!

Did you know that…

1. The average person has over 1,460 dreams a year?

2. Madrid is the only European capital city not situated on a river?

3. Male and female rats may have sex twenty times a day? (Wow, I wish I could do that!)

4. The tune for the “A-B-C” song is the same as “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”?

5. The only country in South East Asia that did not get colonized is Thailand?

6. The computer mouse was invented by Apple and not Microsoft?

7. If MySpace were a country, it would be the 11th largest?

8. The scientific name for kissing is philematology?

9. Only 12 people have ever set foot on the Moon?

10. To “testify” was based on men in the Roman court swearing to a statement made by swearing on their testicles?

Add some of your own!

Your Favorite TV Quotes!

Posted in Ramblings by Rubina on the September 22nd, 2007

All of you TV series addicts (like me) will surely agree on this: They have so many damn good quotes! No explanations needed.
Probably two of my favorite all-time TV series quotes are:

1. From One Tree Hill: “At this moment there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world. Some are running scared. Some are coming home. Some tell lies to make it through the day. Others are just now facing the truth. Some are evil men, at war with good. And some are good, struggling with evil. Six billion people in the world. Six billion souls. And sometimes…all you need is one.”

2. From Sex and the City: “If you find someone to love the you you love, well…that’s just fabulous.”

What are your favorite quotes from any TV series?

The Most Important Aspect of Life is…?

Posted in Ramblings by Rubina on the September 20th, 2007

What do you think is the most important thing in life? Faith, Dignity, Success, Justice, or Love?

I think ‘love’ is the most important aspect of life. A baby needs love and affection to survive, just as adults need to have someone to depend on. And with love comes all of the other aspects of life.

How about you? What do you think?

“What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”?

Posted in Ramblings by Rubina on the September 18th, 2007

O.J Simpson is once again back on headlines. This time though, he has been accused of armed theft of sports souvenirs (which he claimed they belong to him) from memorabilia dealers in a Las Vegas hotel room. He actually said in an interview, “I thought what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas.” No comment, O.J.

As most of you know, this is the star athlete who was found innocent of the 1994 killing of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. Yes, “found innocent” … but this issue will always remain a question mark.

Look on the bright side, at least this time he didn’t kill anyone!

What’s your point of view on O.J Simpson?

Thai Aircraft Crashes Due To “Bad Weather”

Posted in Ramblings by Rubina on the September 16th, 2007

At 0840 GMT today, a passenger plane of the budget airline One-Two-Go slid out of runway and crashed with trees in Thailand’s southern Phuket airport causing many casualties. The aircraft was said to have 128 passengers and crew, and out of those, approximately 60 people were found dead and 40 missing. Around half of the passengers were foreigners, mostly Europeans. Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and an extremely popular resort destination, a place that was also affected by the Tsunami disaster in 2004.

The aircraft broke into two pieces during the crash while landing. The accident was said to be caused by slippery runway after heavy rains.

Deaths that were caused by nature, how can that be justified?
Let’s keep the victims and families in our prayers.

The Eagle Will Soar Again.. God Bless America

Posted in Ramblings by Rubina on the September 11th, 2007

A black void, emptiness,
as wings of demons descend,
brittle glass shatters innocence
now, hidden concealed revenge.
An eagle in flight sailing
like a mighty god of the sky
a serpent within its talons
the struggle between dark and light.
A Nation’s blood splattered, red
pain slices at every soul,
sorrow transcends our reality
amongst the soot and the smoke.
Brothers and Sisters that traveled
into The Valley of Death
may be physically lost, but
their memories are now etched
from the heart of one
into the hearts of two
into the hearts of everyone,
America, God Bless you.
A flag wavers in the breeze,
yet erect like the Rugged Cross
its stars the eyes of this night
crying for a Nation’s loss.
White our stolen purity,
Red our mighty valor,
Blue our vigilant Chief
watching the eagle soar.
Wounded the godlike eagle
attempts to once again fly
struggling to reach the Heavens
through the darkness of this night
towards an everlasting communion
a eulogy in red, white, and blue
a spiritual state of unity
America, God Bless you.

In the memory of the tragedy of September 11th 2001… Nothing has ever been the same since.
